These days, one of the best ways to fight spam is to not have an account that
is from a major domain (hotmail/yahoo/sbcglobal/comcast/etc....) because
spammers will try any and every type of letter combination and send to those
major domains. If you have a less-known domain and don't publish your
address anywhere then your spam will be tolerable. So more and more people
are getting their own domains just for the e-mail and really don't host a
site. Mine started out that way....
What's my whole point here? I just want to put in a good plug for my
e-mail host Repin. Mike Gilday and his
staff are excellent and are at a very reasonable price (less than half of what
Register.com will charge you). Before I moved to Redpin a year ago I used another provider for 3 years and I was
always in the dark about service related issues like changing IP's or e-mail
being down for maintenance. I was always having to contact them after I
noticed something wrong. Not the guys at Redpin, I've had more contact
with Mike, just to check on me and notify me AHEAD of time on service changes,
in the past 10-12 months than I did with my previous host in 3 years.
Redpin gives you a full control panel to manage your accounts and
SpamAssassin settings and they have secondary mail servers to ensure no lost
email. Here is a link to their e-mail fact sheet that spells
out their pricing and service. If this is the type of service you need
then you won't be disappointed.
