Where have you been? Oh, I guess it was me. I know the three of you that read this thing will be happy to know that my site it up and running again. I had to move my sites and they are now hosted at Webhost4Life. Thanks to Sam and Dave for checking up on me and again to Dave for answering some of the questions I had about WH4L's hosting service.
As far as WH4L's hosting service - I'm happy right now. It took some time getting use to their control panel but it didn't take too long to get the hang of it. The layout is pretty logical and similar to the tasks you would do if you on the server itself.
Two things I like the most:
1. Ability to upload a backup of a SQL database and then restore it. All just like using Enterprise Manager.
2. You can edit text files directly through the control panel. So after I had everything up on the server and database setup I just made a quick change to the web.config and it was running. No need to re-upload the web.config.
Two things I don't like:
1. They advertise "unlimited domains to your site". Which is technically true but a bit misleading if you ask me. I've got six sites that I moved over and thought I could get them all for the $10/month price. That's a negative ghost rider, the pattern in full. You can have unlimited domains pointing to your root folder but its an extra $15/year for each new site that lives in a sub folder. This may be documented somewhere but not obvious to me.
2. Having to use FTP to upload everything. I guess I was getting spoiled so this really isn't that much of an issue. Its been a while since I had to use FTP a lot so I've just been using Windows explorer for quick and easy stuff. Back in the day, I loved AbsoluteFTP so that was my first choice and it's still the best FTP client I've seen..that also has a familiar interface and tons of functions.
So, I'm back posting again. Hopefully more than in the past too. I've got a list of things I've been wanting to blog about but just haven't. Thanks for peeking into my corner of the web.
