Nerdbooks again.

I've blogged about Nerdbooks before and as far as I can they are the best place for technical books.  They have two minor issues:  1)The information on their site is very basic.  I like reading reviews from other people.  So I use Amazon for that.  2)This is very minor - They don't send you any bookmarks with the books.  They send you large postcards that could be used for bookmarks but they are too big and bulky.  The one thing I like about Bookpool is the bookmarks they send you.  They are useful, cool looking, and good advertising for them.

Those two issues aside since I'm primarily interested in the price and speed of delivery.

Every time I use Nerdbooks I like them more and more.  This time I'm not local and had to use their shipping via DHL.  I ordered Applied XML Programming for .NET on Monday morning and had it here in Overland Park, KS on Wednesday at lunchtime.  That was with standard ground shipping for only $5.  Do a quick Froogle and you'll see that they are the cheapest other than eBay and A1Books (which takes 2 days just to process your order then added transit time).

Something I got to experience this time was their customer service.  Our card authorization failed because the bill-to address I entered didn't match what my banks has for us.  I got a nice email notifying me of the error and asked me to update the info and try again.  I made the change and in just few minutes (maybe 10) I got another email from them saying it was approved and would ship out that day.

Need a technical book?  I say give them a try.

I can't agree more. It used to be that Home Depot and Fry's used to be my favorite stores. (Ok, Fry's is still really up there.) I've spent many an afternoon hanging out in the store and love it. Man, even my 13 year old daughter likes going to hang out in the Flash and Photoshop side of the store while I go and look around at other stuff.

Plus, you can't go there without getting a free drink and playing with Books the Lab.

I think its a great store and I too could spend hours just looking at the books.  You see all of these books on the web and there you can actually pick it up and look through it before you buy.  Most bookstores like that (BN/Borders) have a very limited selection of technical books. Thanks for stopping by and sharing your experiences.
