Kottke got me
thinking but I'll jot down my thoughts here.
Being a Christian, I feel lead to share my faith. Funny I feel that way
since I haven't always been a Christian and even didn't like those "Christians"
who shoved their beliefs down my throat. To get them to stop I would put
up my defense mechanism because I didn't really know what I believed and didn't
like someone telling me I was wrong (darn pride). So I would start
throwing out the hard questions that I could just keep repeating and rewording
until they finally stopped sharing with me. What they didn't know was that
they were planting seeds.
You know the hard questions I'm talking about:
- What about hell? Why would a loving God create a horrible place of eternal
suffering?
- How do we know the Bible is true?
- How can God let people into heaven that have done such horrible things
like murder but won't let me into Heaven? I'm nice guy and haven't even
committed a crime.
- Since there is no physical evidence I can see or understand that Jesus was
the Son of God, why should I believe that when I can see and understand other
things like science?
Here are two excellent articles written by former atheist that touch on these
subjects and are good reads at any rate.
